Renee Klein has been a K-12 teacher for over thirty years displaying qualities of activism and risk taking to making a difference locally and globally. Shortly after completing her MA, Renee founded and taught in the first public school for Autism in London, England called Manor Day Special School for five years. Renee has been awarded two teaching Fulbright programs one of which was to study and teach at the Hadassah WIZO Research Institute in Jerusalem with Dr. Reuven Feuerstein using the Instrumental Enrichment program for cognitive development. She has been involved with the writing of 25+ environmental grant programs for schools in the Southern California area and has served for nearly 5 years on the Board of Directors with Outward Bound Adventures.
Renee participated in the Boeing Teacher Institute at the Aquarium of the Pacific and with Earthwatch in Monterey Bay; is an outreach educator with the Roots and Shoots program, with the Jane Goodall Institute; works with COSEE (Centers for Ocean Sciences Education) to mentor teachers and attend CAPSI Institute at Caltech to study biogenetics. involved the students in beach cleanup days with Heal the Bay activities; water quality study and conservation programs with the Surfrider Teach and Test program, Team Marine; stewardship activities at the wetlands with the LandTrust , Ballona Institute, Generation Earth, World Water Monitoring Day, tree plantings, and a schoolwide recycling program with the Los Angeles Conservation Corps Clean and Green Programs.
